Synopsis:

COMMENTS:
This story was a new and original look at two genres: the “father and son drama” and “a thug with a heart of gold” story-lines.  I found the script to be a quick read which makes me think that the movie would grab the audience.  It had elements of “A Bronx Tale”,  “Kramer Vs. Kramer”, “Casino”, and “Over the Top”.

The love story and relationship between Izzy and Mickey is so likable and beautiful that you hate to see them apart.  You can’t hate Izzy for what he’s done to protect his family, either, because he’s doing what he can since it’s the only way he knows.  Mickey is a good kid who rises above all his conflicts practically unscathed.  I liked Uncle Ray, too.  He reminded me of someone like Chazz Palminteri or Robert De Niro as he stared down at Bert after beating the hell out him.

The structure worked and the dialogue was consistent and true to the characters.  It was nice to read a story where the color of one’s skin isn’t such an issue that it detracts from the heart of the plot.  When Mickey becomes friends with Terri, Red, Jojo and Terrence it’s not because he’s a token white boy in the hood, but because he’s worthy of their friendship and vice-versa.  I can’t think of any instance where a scene or word of dialogue was gratuitous in this script.  Everything just fit together perfectly.  This would make a wonderful movie.
